THE TAKE-OFF:
- Plane cleared to taxi on the runway at: 18:04 GMT

| WHAT HAPPENED?
- Flight PA 103 departed the London-Heathrow runway 27R, levelled off, & Oceanic Clearance was given. An explosion occurred in the forward cargo hold at position 41.
- Part of the cabin floor and baggage fell atop houses at Rosebank Terrace in Lockerbie. The main wing structure fell onto Sherwood Crescent causing a massive fire.
- A Semtex bomb had been hidden in a "radio-casette player" that was transferred to PA 103 from an earlier 727 PanAm flight which had arrived from Frankfurt, Germany.
- November 13, 1991: a murder Indictment was brought against:
Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi; a Libyan intelligence officer & head of security for the Libyan Arab Airlines
Lamin Kharlifah Fhimah ... LAA station manager at Luqa Airport in Malta.
- April 5, 1999: Libyan President Muammar al-Gaddafi handed over the accused.
- January 31, 2001, Megrahi was convicted of murder by a panel of 3 Scottish Judges and sentenced to 27 years in prison. Fhimah was acquitted.
- 20 August 2009: Megrahi was released by Scottish Judges & sent home to a "hero's welcome" to Libya. He had served roughly 14 days of incarceration for each of the PanAm #103 Dead.
