"Ketsana" Hits the Philippines


Manila = UTC /GMT + 8 hours

Best Time So Far:
  • Ketsana hit land early on Saturday with winds said to be only 53 mph with gusts up to 63 mph:
  • The power went out in Manila between
    4:00PM & 4:30PM Local Time
    on Saturday, Sept 26, 2009

  • Then in the late evening ... it got worse




The Streets of Manila: 26 Sept 2009

  • Typhoon Ketsana has inundated the Philippines;   Sept. 27/28th. 

  • 13 inches of rainfall fell in 6 hours.  Manila received over 20 inches of rain.  300 are homeless and several killed. 
  • The worse flooding for Manila in 42 years. 
  • Manila is home to more than 11 million people. 

  • This Storm is now headed across the South China Sea and is expected to make landfall in Vietnam.


  • 160 Dead & Missing so far.  The worse flooding in 42 years.  Army troops, police & civilian volunteers rescued 5,000 people from roof-tops & from tops of buses.
  • Landslides in northern Pampanga and Bulacan Provinces. 
  • Rescuers are dying trying to save villagers.
  • More than a month's worth of rain fell in just 12 hours.  Landslides have killed at least 52 people.  Some marooned people are even hanging onto high-voltage power line poles.
300,000 people have been
affected by "Ketsana".

  • "We're back to zero" said one Marikina resident.  Mud covers everything.  Distress calls and e-mails came from thousands of residents in Manila, the airport was shut down for several hours.  Garbage fills the drains and waterways.
