"Just Because You're Paranoid ... Doesn't Mean, They Aren't Out To Get You!"

1. In 1962, Edward Haslam  asked his father for a pet monkey.  His father said "NO" ... the reason?..his father told him:  " Monkeys carry diseases that can make you sick -- even kill you."
   
   
2. O.K..... growing up in New Orleans ... you hear lots of weird things ... but over the next 35 years ... Haslam kept hearing about "monkey viruses" and the phrase started to "sink in".
   
   
3. While growing up in New Orleans, Haslam  eventually  found out that:
   
   
   • Millions of Americans (yeah...  you, me, "us")  had been inoculated with a polio vaccine  full of  monkey viruses (remember Sabin & Salk? Remember that "sugar cube"?
     
     
   • Polio vaccines had been grown on monkey kidneys ... and it was alter discovered that those monkey kidneys were loaded up with cancer-causing viruses (SV-40).  So, when the polio vaccine was produced it  also was  contaminated with cancer-causing viruses.
     
     
   • Experiments  with the cancer-causing monkey viruses were  subsequently conducted at a secret laboratory in New Orleans,  to either:
     
     (A) develop a biological weapon aimed at killing Cuba's Fidel Castro  (or anyone else who became "an enemy of the state";  - or -
     
     (B)  Create a vaccine to counteract  the soft-tissue cancer viruses  loaded onto the polio vaccines;    - but -
     
     (C) - When they irradiated the monkey viruses, instead of a cure or even a cause  for cancer, they also  found ....HIV-AIDS.
     

1. Why was Ed Haslam so interested in Mary Sherman's death?   Ed Haslam's father was Edward Haslam Senior... and Edward Haslam Senior was a professor of orthopedic surgery at Tulane Medical School in New Orleans... and Mary Sherman was a colleague & friend of Ed's father.    In fact Ed Jr.'s whole social circle  included the medical community of New Orleans in one way or another.
   
   Also, it seems,  Ed discovered that  when people who:  (1) aren't smart enough to understand the implications of "un-intended consequences" ...  (2) aren't smart enough to perceive what sort of "un-intended consequences even exist" .... (3) don't  comprehend the fact that "we don't know  all it is"  that "we don't know" .... then the "Incomprehensible Can Happen" .... and unfortunately DID.  In the form of:
   
   
   • HIV-AIDS
     
     
   • an epidemic of soft-tissue cancers
     
     
   • biological weapons developed from "hyped up"  cancer-causing monkey viruses.

• Statistics from the National Cancer Institute showed a dramatic increase in the incidence of soft-tissue cancers between 1973 and 1988
  
  skin cancer up by 70 percent, lymphoma 60 percent, prostate cancer 60 percent and breast cancer 34 percent.  
  
  Back in 1969, doctors (and presumably the public) were taught that cancer was "a spontaneous disease," meaning it could not be created, transferred, caught or induced. Words like "carcinogenic" and "cancer-causing chemicals" were not yet part of the popular American vocabulary.

• Ed decided to go into advertising... and later on  (lucky for us),  to write a book about a murder mystery.  In particular,  the  murder of one Dr. Mary Sherman who died in 1964.  She was found in New Orleans... she had been stabbed and burned in a bizarre manner.  Her case has never been solved.

• Maybe the reason why it has never been solved  (the case is still open to this day) has something to do with:

1. Political Machines
2. The Assassination of  President John Kennedy
3. Oschner's Medical Clinic
4. Linear Particle Accelerators
5. Underground Secret Laboratories
6. Aids & Cancer Being caused by Viruses

• Why pick Dr. Mary Sherman to write about?   As mentioned above;  she was a friend of the family.  Ed grew up around her and others in his father's circle.  But perhaps especially because ... according to Ed Haslam;  the first and only time he had ever seen his father cry ( his dad had been a doctor in World War II ;  in the Navy no less) ... was when his dad got back fron the morgue after seeing the body of  his friend and fellow colleague at Tulane University in New Orleans , Dr. Mary Sherman.  Mary's body had no right arm ... it was missing.
  
  
• Later the same year ... Ed saw his father get very upset about whatever was going on at the Public Health Service Hospital.  Ed heard his father say:
  
  
  "We fought wars to keep people from doing things like this!"
  

1. One of her arms had been burnt away as well has her rib cage.
   
   
2. The apartment fire that was listed as the cause did little damage to the rest of the room.  But;  the degree of heat needed to do to a body what had been done to Mary's Body would have had to exceed that used to cremate bodies (over 3000º).
   
   
3. Guess what?  It just so happens that a linear particle accelerator  could produce heat at that level and  Dr. Mary Sherman had been working with one in
   her secret underground laboratory ...
   
   
   • She used it  / it  was being used;   to radiate monkey viruses to help develop a vaccine for soft-tissue cancers that had resulted from the  polio vaccine that  millions of school kids were given in the 1950's and the 1960's.
     
     
   • It was also being used (so "they" say)  to develop a fast-acting cancer-causing virus that could be used to assassinate Fidel Castro.
     
     
   • Ed Haslam says he found evidence that such an accelerator existed at the U.S. Public Health Services (USPHS) hospital in New Orleans in the 1950s... & that he even found a witness who claims to have worked there.
     
     Dr. Mary  Sherman  worked on a monkey virus project at the secret, government-funded USPHS laboratory under the direction of famed New Orleans doctor Alton Ochsner (yes....Ochsner's Clinic... that  Ochsner).
     
     
     
4. Dr. Sherman's autopsy report showed:
   
   
   • a stab wound to her heart that  was inflicted with a very slim instrument.  Other wounds were made with a large butcher knife. 
   • 1,200ccs of blood hemorrhaged around her heart but none around her also stabbed liver.  According to Haslam:  "You hemorrhage when you're alive," Haslam says, "but there was no hemorrhaging around the liver, so the stab wounds were made at different times."
   • There was a high level of morphine in Sherman's blood, a typical part of treating a patient with severe burns.
     
     
   
   
5. What does Haslam think happened?  He thinks Dr. Mary Sherman's arm and ribcage were incinerated during an accident at the lab and that she later was stabbed in the heart, a wound that actually killed her, then stabbed in other places post-mortem to establish a cover story. None of her neighbors heard anything.  At some point, though, someone smelled smoke & called the police  department... but before that ... nothing.
   

1. As it just so happened;  the New Orleans Parish coroner who investigated David Ferrie's death,  had a son named Nicky Chetta who was one of Ed Haslam's classmates in Jesuit High School.   Nicky had a story to tell  the kids at school. 
   
   
   
   NICKY'S  STORY: (One Day at Jesuit High School in 1969)
   
   
   
   • Nicky started talking about Ferrie's apartment, which his father had seen the day Ferrie died.
     
     
   • Ferrie lived alone. But in his closets they had found both women's clothing and priest's robes.
     
     
   • They also found a small medical laboratory with a dozen mice in cages which he used for medical experiments. His medical equipment included microscopes, syringes, surgical tools and a medical library.
     
     
   • When they talked to Ferrie's other landlords they were told of a full-scale laboratory in his apartment with thousands of mice in cages.
     
     
   • It turned out he was inducing cancer in the mice!  Ferrie claimed he was looking for a cure for cancer, but;   Jim Garrison (investigating the Kennedy Assassination) had  investigators who thought Ferrie was trying to figure out a way to use cancer as an assassination weapon, presumably against Castro and his followers. Cancer as a virus induced bio-weapon.
     
     
     
   • Nicky added, almost as an aside, that Garrison's investigative team thought that this may have been how Jack Ruby died, murdered by induced cancer to silence him. (Note: Ruby died of cancer shortly after he won a new trial for the slaying of Oswald and was working to get his trial moved outside Dallas.)
     
     
   • The kids considered this but asked; "How could anyone induce cancer?"  Nicky's answer?  Nicky  then said that "they had been injecting mice with monkey viruses".  Their response (along with Haslam's) was a sort of "Aw Come on.... cancer from monkey viruses?"
     
     
   • Then another student spoke up and added this:  "there was a "kid" down at Tulane Medical School who was dying from the total collapse of his immune system. They couldn't figure out what was causing it. They gave him every antibiotic they had and nothing worked. He would get better for a while, and then he would get worse."
     
     Note:  Haslam recounts that at this point, he  thought to himself;  "I'm obviously not the only student at Jesuit that has a family member working at Tulane Medical School. I was certain this was "insider information"."
     
     Next, Haslam says another kid in the room spoke out: "That means they were developing a biological weapon! What happens if it escapes into the human population?"  No one said a word ..... and then the bell rang.
     
     But as Haslam got his books together; he turned to the student next to him and said this:   "Well, the good news is if there's a bizarre global epidemic involving cancer and a monkey virus thirty years from now, at least we'll know where it came from."   Haslam was making this remark out of nervousness and an attempt to be a bit light hearted .... but he spoke truer than he knew ... but it didn't take 30 years.   Haslam's  remark started to come true...in 1973.
     
     
   • Nicky  had said that Garrison had received a "raw deal" in his investigation of the Kennedy assassination,  and;   that the district attorney had discovered a cancer lab in David Ferrie's apartment.
     
     Nicky had also said Bobby Kennedy had called his father the day of Ferrie's death to discuss just what had killed  him.  Bobby wanted to know just how Ferrie had died.  (Ferrie's cause of death was listed as a "berry aneurysm"  (a blood vessel in his head that hemorrhaged).
   
   

1. The story of an underground (shadow) medical research/bio-weapons laboratory in New Orleans with both International political and monetary connections;   tightly intertwined & enmeshed with both law enforcement, Political Machines & Organized Crime in conjunction with International Trade & Commerce..... it resembled an octopus-like "Conglomerate" with agendas of its own...  mainly to protect its own interests. 
   
   
2. And that in November  of 1963;  its tentacles may have ended the life of  then  President of the United States John F. Kennedy.  In this world;  everybody worked not just "both ends of the Street" ... they tended to work the entire neighborhood! 
   
   So informants for the Justice Department (& that would have included  then Attorney General Bobby Kennedy) were likely to be mob informants who were part of the mob .... drug dealers, foreign political operatives & even hitmen who had access to  all sides of the street.  If you worked for one side;  and knew your business;  chances were you worked for  ALL   the sides (and were mostly concerned with protecting your own interests & covering your own backside).
   
   
3. At the same time... through faulty research... or an attempt to develop a "weaponized cancer" as an assassination tool.... this group of madmen & women;  may have inadvertently infected a generation with the threat of cancer and the Aids Virus.
   
   
4. As usual, the cover-up equals the crime.  As a newly elected President of the United States;  Kennedy would have inherited this problem.  To do anything about it would mean:
   
   
   • [A] inventing a vaccine for the cancer/aids causing viruses
   
   
   • [B] Admitting what had happened & explain how after the problem was identified recognized  (by 1960 at latest & after 100 Million doses had already been dispensed) .... why weren't the UNUSED additional 100 million doses destroyed?  Why instead were distributed to the populace? 
   
   According to Haslam;   upon receiving the infected vaccines one in 20 would actually develop the soft tissue cancers given genetics and immune responses.  That ratio exactly equals the incidence of  the cancer epidemic.    Even worse was the discovery that the  contaminated vaccines  contained viruses that were sexually transmittable.  Thus, infected persons receiving the contaminated vaccines would have passed the viruses on to anyone they had sexual contact with and then the same ratio would then apply to the newly infected individuals.
   
   Aso According to Haslam; the secret lab, plans to kill Castro and even JFK's assassination  were all linked to this "circle of associations".   This (what might be called)  "Conglomerate of Sociopaths"  (birds of a feather, flock together?):   mafia kingpin Carlos Marcello, Dr. Ochsner, Clay Shaw (whom Garrison unsuccessfully prosecuted as a conspirator in Kennedy's assassination), David Ferrie, the Reily Coffee Company, the FBI and CIA, et al.
   
   
5. Haslam thinks  that Oswald  was actually an operative for the CIA & was not the shooter. This claim is backed up by Judyth Vary, who worked in the lab with Sherman and Oswald and was romantically involved with Oswald.
   
   Note #1: 
   
   The CIA was NOT happy with being left out to dry during the Bay of Pigs fiasco.  Kennedy had given his word to the CIA  that back-up and air support would be given to the Cubans trying to overthrow Castro.  In turn the CIA operatives had given  their  word to the Cubans based on Kennedy's promise.  When Kennedy got cold feet and the whole operations was "shoved under the bus" that meant deaths & torture to many and the loss of Trust on many levels among many factions. 
   
   Jimmy Hoffa was upset for being sent to prison & Carlos Marcello was upset about being deported & having his drugs & import,  financial dealings interfered with.
   
   Richard Nixon wasn't happy about losing the 1960 election after having received $2 Million in donations from Hoffa & the Teamsters. [Nixon gave Hoffa an executive grant of clemency  on 23 Dec 1971  after serving only 5 years on a 13 year sentence ] upon finally attaining the  presidency)
   
   Vary, who is married and lives in Florida under the name Judyth Vary Baker, has tried repeatedly over the years to clear Oswald's name  &  has spoken out about a bioweapons lab in New Orleans. She has been interviewed by Haslam, as well as a crew from 60 Minutes.  60 Minutes  decided not to air her story.
   
   Note #2:
   
   If Oswald was "part of the club";  but hand picked to take the fall" (i.e., he was expendable) partly because he was working as an informant for Bobby Kennedy (working all sides of all the streets);  then should Bobby want to go after Oswald as the shooter;  Oswald could implicate Bobby as wanting to take a shortcut to the White House.  If nothing else;  what would make out of  "who & why" that the supposed shooter of President Kennedy was working for the President's brother &  then Attorney General of the United States .... Bobby Kennedy?
   
   
6.  Haslam's research  led him to believe  that Garrison's probe, and consequently his reputation, was smeared and discredited by federal officials, including then-U.S. Attorney General Bobby Kennedy.
   
   
7. Dr. Mary's Monkey is the second book Haslam has written about Sherman's murder, monkey viruses and a secret lab in New Orleans.

• 7 - David Ferrie
• Born: 28 March 1918 - Cleveland, Ohio (David William Ferrie)
• Died: 22 February 1967 - New Orleans, Louisiana
  
  Ferrie worked as a Pilot for Eastern Airlines, he had trained pilots and he was part of the Bay of Pigs.  Ferrie had flown missions in and out of Cuba for years.  He is said to have flown weapons to Castro to fight Batista ... but he was later to take part in the Bay of Pigs.
  
  The Russians were in Cuba on Castro's invitation.  Castro wanted to use the Russians to get the Americans out of "his new Cuba".  Mobsters & businessmen  had gained quite a foothold in Cuba under Batista. When Castro took over on Jan. 01, 1959, he proceeded confiscate American assets (oil refineries, Casinos & factories), became a Marxist, & invited the Russians "to tea".  The Russians had been facing missiles from Turkey pointing in their direction for years and were anxious to "point some of their own" in America's direction.  Castro gave them that chance.
  
  Ferrie (along with co-pilot &  aeronautics electronic expert Robert Morrow) was sent to do recon work prior to the Bay of Pigs.  He and Morrow were to locate and identify radio signals coming out of the Camaguey Mountains in central Cuba.
  
  Ferrie met with General Charles Cabell  (top CIA brass) & received his orders to fly to Cuba.  He and Morrow did so on the night of April 16th, 1961.  They got in & got out;  but their plane was detected & riddled with bullets.  Ferrie got his info back in time, but was wounded in the process. 
  
  The Bay of Pigs was an invasion of Cuba  that took place the next morning at dawn on April 17th, 1961.  It was a disaster.  At the last minute, President Kennedy cut off the air support and hundreds of Cuban exiles were killed on Cuba's beaches;  trying to take back  their country.  1200 were killed.
  

• 2 - Alton  Ochsner: " Tulane University & Medical Research"

  While at Washington University in St. Louis (as a medical student ) Ochsner was woken in the middle of the night to witness an autopsy being done on a patient who died of  Lung Cancer.  He was told it was such a rare opportunity to see the disease as he might never see such another case in his medical career.
  
  Ochsner was a medical pioneer & co-founder of the Ochsner Clinic (now Ochsner Medical Clinic)  in New Orleans.  He did pioneer work in blood transfusion and lung cancer research.
  
  
• Specialist Doctor to Latin America including: Anastasio Somoza (Dictator-Nicaragua), Juan Peron (Dictator-Argentina). 
  
  
• Worked for 2 years in "sensitive positions" under the FBI (completed  on 21 Oct. 1959) after which he was free to take on a "new assignment".

1. It was into this "den of thieves" that Mary Stulz (Sherman) was recruited by Dr.  Alton Oschner   She  was then handed over to Lee Harvey Oswald as her factotum & tour guide... and given David Ferrie as a "lab assistant"
   
   
2. In April of 1963;  Judyth Vary entered the picture (recruited by Dr. Oschner).  She was  asked to work as a  summer intern with Dr. Mary Sherman.  There she met Lee Harvey Oswald who introduced her to Sherman's friend;  David Ferrie.
   
   
3. Judyth had married Robert A. Baker who proceeded to more or less abandon her in New Orleans.  Oswald was said to be having marital troubles.
   
   
4. Judyth and Oswald became lovers.  They lived near each other on Magazine Street & both worked at the Riley Coffee Company next to Guy Bannister's office.
   

• Dr. Mary Stults (married Thomas Sherman) - cancer research
• Born: 21 April 1913 - Evanston, Illinois
• Died: 21 July 1964 - New Orleans, Louisiana

Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in pathology and a recognized expert in the use of radiation.  Mary did post-graduate work at the University of Chicago where in 1937, the first sustained nuclear reaction was produced for  UC physicist Enrico Fermi.  She was at the heart of nuclear / bio-chemical / genetic research in the United States.  While there, Dr. Sherman achieved ground breaking research into botanical viruses in soil. 
      
     
  2. Came to New Orleans  as a faculty member of Tulane University in 1952 & ran a cancer research lab for Dr. Alton Ochsner.
     
     
  3. Her murder was  front page news in New Orleans for two weeks.
     
     
  4. Judyth Vary was a  much  touted  "star" high school student already involved in medical research.  She was recruited by Ochsner  & accepted a summer internship with Dr. Mary Sherman.
